A few more years into the Clown Arctic Monkeys signatures shirt future. My ex has a daughter, who was born addicted to cocaine. She lost custody of her. Fortunately, for the little girl she is being raised by the mothers (yes, mothers), adoptive mothers, I later found out, of the girls father. She has had ADHD issues, but is doing quite well being raised by those two wonderful women. The father died of a cocaine overdose, and the mother (my ex) only sees her at the occasional birthday party. Forward a few years. My son is old enough to cook for himself, so I let him spend weekends with his mother. She has another child, with another boyfriend. My son, comes home, and tells me that he and his little brother basically spend the weekend in the back bedroom, where he takes care of him, while his mother and her boyfriend have guests in the living room.

He became rather fond of his little brother, and wanted to continue to go, just so he could ensure his brother was well taken care of on the weekends (my son is barely 9 at this time). A couple of years go by, my son’s visits become less frequent (multiple excuses on his mother’s part, despite the fact that I always brought food, and drove the 80 miles, both ways, in order to drop him off and to pick him up). Eventually the police busted a methlab at their trailer, and both the mother (my ex) and father go to jail. My son is horrified, mostly because he wasn’t there that weekend, and he was worried about his little brother, saying that he should have been there. The father takes the rap, and the boy is returned to my ex.
